Tennis player Novak Djokovic will play in ATP Cup in 2022

Novak Djokovic, the world’s top-ranked tennis player, will play for Serbia at the ATP Cup in Sydney in 2022, The Australian reports.

The 30-year-old was one of just a handful of current players who were eligible to join the tournament in Sydney. A total of 32 countries will be eligible for the event at the Australian Open, with the winners getting to play the World Cup in September at Melbourne Park, that year.

Some of the other top players from overseas who have been invited to join the tournament include Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Nick Kyrgios, Jack Sock, Rogerio Dutra Silva, and Fabio Fognini.

“I am honored and humbled that the ATP has invited me to play the ATP Cup,” Djokovic said. “I have never played in Australia and so I am very excited to be joining the other best tennis players from around the world in Sydney in 2022 and compete for the event that is all about the best male players from around the world. I am looking forward to learning a lot more about the Australian Open in the lead up.”

Djokovic last played in Australia back in January when he lost to Nick Kyrgios in the second round of the Australian Open.

With the tournament taking place during the Australian Open, there is a good chance it will give an early indication of which players are likely to be among the tournament favorites at the tournament.
