F1: Mercedes have confirmed their appeal to the decision not to award Max Verstappen the world title against Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton on the back of his passing of Max Verstappen at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Sunday.

“Mercedes, following a very thorough and careful investigation by the independent F1 Stewards, has today upheld its appeal against their decision from the previous day,” they said in a statement.

“The decision of the Stewards at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was a clear error of judgment, based on legal and technical errors, and has led to the award of the 2017 Drivers’ Championship to Lewis Hamilton.

“Mercedes views this as an important day for motorsport, ensuring the undisputed result of the 2017 Drivers’ Championship is upheld.”
